The UCHS Boys Tennis Team went to Murfreesboro focused and now the Devils are one match away from a state championship. The Devils knocked off Christ Presbyterian Academy in a 4-3 thriller Tuesday in the Class A/AA State Team semifinals, and now will play Collegdale Academy Wednesday at 12:30 eastern/11:30 central in Murfreesboro in the championship.

In singles,UCHS lost three of the five matches, but won two of the three doubles to take the victory. The key match of the day was Conly Shults and Matt Holka winning 9-7 to clinch the victory. UCHS head coach Michael Smith was extremely proud of Shults and Holka for how they battled, and said Shults really had to face a lot of pressure in order to help his team clinch the win. "I`m proud of all the kids, but Conly did a great job of keeping the ball in play. He was down love-40 in the last game on his serve and they were able to pull it off," UCHS head tennis coach Michael Smith said. Paschal Koch and Reed Jackson teamed up for an 8-2 doubles victory.

Jackson and Holka had the two singles wins. "I felt like it was a tough match. but we fought through it," Smith said. "They all played hard." The players been talking all year about this moment when they realized they had the talent to achieve great things. The moment is finally here, and the Devils believe their time is now. "I think this was their goal from the start," Smith said. "They`ve talked for awhile about winning the state as a team. It`s going to be a good match win or lose, but we don`t expect to lose. We came to win."
