If you subscribe to Verizon or Alltell cell phone service, you have probably noticed problems with people hearing your voice.

Heavy wind and freezing rain caused the tower to collapse today, as well as several power lines and trees on Oakwood Court, Rolling Hills, and Elm Avenue.

The 1400 block of Rock Creek Road in Erwin is completely blocked by at least two trees. Parsley Drive and Evergreen Road are also blocked.

Galax Drive will be closed to traffic through the weekend until it is cleared of debris.

Tucker Street is closed, although the barricades have been washed out.

Repairs are expected within a short time, as several key Unicoi County authorities, including the Sheriffs Department, rely on Verizon and Alltell cell service for communication.
