In commemoration of the 225th anniversary of the muster of the Overmountain Men, Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area is currently hosting a reprise of The Wataugans. It began last night and will run through Sunday in the Fort Watauga amphitheater.
Pre show entertainment will begin each night at 6:15 and tomorrow night’s roster includes the Jonesborough-based Celebration Show Choir, the Old Timers Band, the East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Band and other musicians.
The drama will begin and 7 as "The Wataugans," Tennesse’s Official Outdoor Drama, depicts the lives of early settlers as they stave off fierce attacks by the Cherokee and win the ultimate victory over the British at the Battle of Kings Mountain. The story also includes the Watauga Association, the Transylvania Purchase, and the Siege of Fort Watauga.
Friday night, Veterans Night will honor current and past members of the armed forces of the United States and their spouses with free admission.
Tickets for The Wataugans at Sycamore Shoals are $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and $8 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Children 6 and under are admitted free.
