Hi...I am the first voice to ever broadcast on WEMB in the AM Days. I helped Max Blakemore and Elvia Meadows build the station over the Drug Store while he taught me to "talk". I did the first frequency checks at 5:00AM before we got the premit to broadcast. Then signed on the early morning show the first day we ever broadcast. Did the "1420 Club" for years in the afternoon at 4PM after returning from a day at school at ETSU until I graduated and got married in 1954. Hello again Brother's just got through listening to the UCHS BOY"S&UH BUC"S game very exciting. I remember the day WEMB moved from main street to your location now. Jim true was the owner of the station which air in 1956 I would go to the old location two days a week just to watch and I learn alot from Mr.True. When I come to Erwin I tune my car radio to 1420 Wemb. Ps I always wanted to work at WEMB but I move away. When I drive by the station I want to stop in and just think of the days gone past. The site is great...I'm proud to know that the radio station in our community still commits to playing the greatest music..."gospel" Not many others can say that...I love the Trivia too. I visit Erwin about three times a year--twice a year to hike the Appalachian Trail and once during Apple Festival weekend--and always enjoy listening to WEMB for the latest weather and local info. Thanks for what you do for visitors like me who love the Unicoi County area!
